Facilitate – Warsop Health Hub
As part of our series focusing on new and innovative facilities in the sport and physical activity centre, we are shining a light on Warsop Health Hub.
The Nottinghamshire-based centre has just celebrated its first birthday, having opened it doors in June 2024, and is operated on behalf of Mansfield District Council by Serco Leisure and More Leisure Community Trust.
The modern facility is the pilot for Sport England’s Leisure Local model of health hubs. A concept that aims to encourage well-designed facilities that can better meet the needs of local communities to support their health, physical and mental wellbeing.
Costing £9.1 million, the hub includes a 15×8-metre swimming pool and splash play area, a fitness suite, a multi-purpose hall, a café/viewing area and a community room, and offers a range of specifically targeted programmes and services.
In tandem with a focus on community need, there is also innovative work included around the long-term sustainability of the building, with solar panels providing green energy and the inclusion of a new detention basin as part of Severn Trent Water’s Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) programme.
We spoke to Matt Hancock – Serco’s Contract Manager for the Hub and asked him about how the facility came to fruition and the impact that it’s had on the community in its opening twelve months.
