Our guidance will support you to prepare for the change

From April 2026, Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax will transform how self-employed individuals manage their tax.

You will no longer fill out your tax return all at once. Instead, you’ll split and spread the admin throughout the year.

Browse our guidance (via HMRC) to find out all you need to know:

  • Who these changes impact – use the MTD Eligibility Checker to find out if and when you need to use Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
  • What needs to be sent to HMRC – details on quarterly updates and tax return
  • How you submit records digitally – including software requirements and support in finding the right software
  • Dates for your diary – note down the key dates to ensure you meet the MTD deadlines
  • Useful webinars – to better understand MTD, including the legal requirements
